Substance Abuse Assessments and Counseling
G.R.E.A.T D.A.Y. licensed clinicians conduct substance abuse evaluations using the Addiction Severity Index (ASI). The ASI is a comprehensive assessment tool covering historical, family, medical and social aspects of a person’s life in relationship to drugs and/or alcohol. The purpose of this assessment is to rate the person’s severity of addiction and level of treatment needed, as well as to assess for possible co-occurring mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress or bi-polar disorders.
Therapy often cannot effectively be conducted while a person is actively using substances. Our addiction counseling focuses on working with individuals who have completed a detox or intensive rehabilitation treatment, or who have committed to sobriety and the recovery process. We help people maintain their sobriety through counseling, which involves cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy to assess problems and address triggers related to addiction/relapse. Additional goals are to identify and treat any co-occurring disorders, and to challenge negative beliefs about the self and world. This therapy may involve the individual, the couple or the family.
