G.R.E.A.T D.A.Y. (Georgia Resources: Education, Advocacy and Treatment for Deaf Adults and Youth) has served as an outpatient mental health service provider to deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind adults, youth and their families since 2001.  The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD)  contracts with G.R.E.A.T. D.A.Y. to serve as a state-wide point-of-access to mental health and addictive disease services for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or deaf-blind.  G.R.E.A.T. D.A.Y. provides - via telephone, video/tty/internet relay, or text - Mental Health Screening, Triage and Referral services to assess an individual’s need and to connect the individual to preferred mental health service providers available in the individual’s area for accessible treatment.

The Deaf Mental Health Access Line is staffed from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) by staff fluent in American Sign Language and knowledgeable about Deaf Culture.

Screening:  A brief phone assessment to identify an individual’s problems and need for services which may warrant further evaluation and treatment

Triage:  Identification of severity of situation to determine referral and required provider response time.  Emergency needs callers are connected immediately to the 24 hour Georgia Crisis and Access Line for crisis services at 1-800-715-4225.

Referral: Linking a caller who warrants further evaluation to a preferred Community Service Board or private provider for mental health or addictive disease services based on the individual’s presentation, urgency of need, and consumer preference as identified in the screening process.
