Our Licensed Clinicians
G.R.E.A.T.D.A.Y.
currently has two (2) Licensed, Certified Clinical Counselors on staff,
Kinga Sherrill and Alexis Whalen. Both
hold licenses from the Georgia Composite Board of Social Workers, Professional
Counselors, and Marriage and Family Therapists and
are certified by the National Board of Certified
Counselors (NBCC). Both are members of
the Licenced Professional Counselors
Association of GA (LPCAGA).
Ms. Sherrill has
been in the field of mental health since earning her Master's degree in
Community Counseling from Georgia State
University in 1986. She has been
licensed (number 1731) since 1991. Extensive
hospital and private practice work has given her a wide range of experience.
She started in the field of deafness in 1994 while working at the Georgia
Council for the Hearing Impaired until 1999. Over the years, Ms. Sherrill
has received specialized
training in experiential psychology and in working with childhood, sexual and physical abuse, post-traumatic
stress disorders, anxiety and depression, as well as dual diagnosis disorders.
She is a long-standing member of the National Board of Certified
Counselors and the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia.
Ms. Whalen has been working in the field
of Deafness since 1991, and mental health since 1997.
While attending graduate school, she worked as a staff interpreter and
later as a freelance interpreter in Asheville, NC. In 1996, Ms.
Whalen earned her Master's degree in Community Counseling from Western Carolina University.
She then worked as the Assistant Clinical Director
at the SC School for the Deaf and Blind – Pioneer Ridge Program in
Spartanburg. This program
specialized in serving deaf children and adolescents with behavioral and
emotional issues. In 2001, after
moving to Atlanta, she received her GA professional license (number 3466). Ms. Whalen specializes in
working with children and adolescents and their families and relationship
counseling. Ms. Whalen has also had additional training in dual diagnosis disorders, and substance abuse
prevention/recovery maintenance. Ms.
Whalen is a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors and the
Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia.

Miss Elizabeth Mayton
Miss Elizabeth Mayton is hard of hearing and has been involved with ASL and
the Deaf community for two years. She earned her B.A. in Art History from Emory
University in 2003. Since then, she has been taking ASL classes at Georgia
Perimeter College. She plans to gain her Masters degree in teaching deaf and
hard of hearing children. She looks forward to learning more about ASL and Deaf
Culture, so don’t be shy to chat with her when you see her in the office!
